The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team improved to 16-6 for the season following victories over Morton College (MC) and the Mount Mercy College junior varsity (MMCJV).
Sophomores Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., and Deshawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 22 and 21 points respectively to lead the Bears past MC, 85-75, February 2 at Cicero, Ill. Sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., had 19 points and freshman Zach Lester of Clear Lake scored 18 as the Bears defeated MMCJV, 82-70, Feb. 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
DMACC grabbed a 44-40 halftime lead in its win over MC with sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., also reaching double figures with 14 points. The Bears shot 53 percent, connecting on 24 of 45 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-18 from three-point range and 18-of-29 from the free throw line.
MC came away with a 35-33 advantage on the boards with sophomore Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., pulling down 12 rebounds to lead DMACC. Davidson and Prince led the Bears in assists with four apiece.
Swaby scored 11 points and sophomore Ray Miler of Davenport and freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., had 10 points apiece to join Robinson and Lester in double figures in the win over MMCJV. DMACC had a 49-33 lead at halftime.
The Bears shot 53 percent, hitting 32 of 61 field goal attempts. They were 6-of-18 from three-point range and 12-of-20 from the free throw line. Lester made eight of 11 shots from the field en route to his 18 points and Robinson was 7-of-13 in field goal shooting.
Swaby recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 40-29 advantage on the boards. Prince dished out nine assists with Lester getting five assists to go with five steals.
The DMACC men's basketball team, 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) faces Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Feb. 6 at Creston. The Spartans are 13-10 overall and 2-6 in the ICCAC.
