DeVeau's two home runs and five RBIs lead DMACC baseball team past Northeast Oklahoma College-Enid, 16-12

 

Freshman Maverick DeVeau of Kendallville, Ind., had three hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in five runs as the DMACC baseball team evened its record at 2-2 with a 16-12 win over Northeast Oklahoma College-Enid (NOCE) February 9 at Enid, Okla.

 

Sophomores Blake Crancer of Normal. Ill., and Adam Leininger of Fargo N.D. had one hit and two RBIs in a game that featured 24 hits, including 16 singles, and 28 runs.

 

DMACC trailed 1-0 after the first inning and took the lead at 5-1 with four runs in the top of the third.  NEOC went up 6-5 with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and DMACC tied it with a run in the top of the fifth. NOCE  scored twice in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-6 lead before DMACC went ahead for good with five runs in the seventh. The Bears padded their advantage with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth and NOCE tallied four runs in the bottom of the ninth.

 

Sophomore Brock Moore of Urbandale joined DeVeau with multiple hits with a pair of singles and Crancer and sophomore Brady Walton of Waukee accounted for DMACC's other extra-base hits with one double apiece.

Redshirt freshman Jackson Gwin of Lafayette, Ind., pitched the first three innings for DMACC, allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout. Sophomore Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake went an inning and two-thirds, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout and freshman Drew Owen of Alleman went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and getting one strikeout. He was awarded the win. Freshman Ben Engele of Oakdale, Mont., also pitched two innings, allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk and sophomore Rhett Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter went a third of an inning and allowed one run on one hit.

 

The DMACC baseball team will take a seven-game road trip to Texas and Oklahoma Feb. 13 to 17. The Bears will play a doubleheader against Dallas North Lake Community College (DNLCC) Feb. 13 in Dallas, Texas, and will play doubleheaders against Dallas Eastfield College (DEC)  Feb. 14 and 15, also in Dallas, Texas. The Bears will close out the trip with a doubleheader against NOCE Feb. 17 at Enid, Okla.
