DMACC baseball team drops doubleheader to Indian Hills

The DMACC baseball team fell to 8-11 for the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) March 5 at Centerville.

 

The Warriors, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, won the opener, 7-5, and took the nightcap by a 12-7 score.

 

IHCC used a 5-run first inning to get the win in the first game. DMACC made it a 5-3 game with two runs in the top of the fourth and one in the fifth but the Warriors scored in the bottom of the fifth to go up 6-3. Both team scored one run apiece in the sixth and DMACC added its final run in the seventh.

 

Sophomore Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D., provided most of the Bears' offense with a double and a home run and three runs batted in. Freshman Drew Owen of Alleman had two hits for DMACC, including a double, and sophomore Brady Walton of Waukee added a double. Walton and sophomore Isaac Zoske of Alleman drove in one run apiece.

 

Sophomore Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., started on the mound for DMACC and fell to 2-1 with the loss. He pitched a third of an inning, allowing five runs on one hit with three walks. Sophomore Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake went five and two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

 

DMACC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game but the Warriors answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and then scored six runs in the third and five in the fourth. DMACC made it a 12-5 game with three runs in the fourth and scored two more runs in the sixth.

 

Owen paced the Bears at the plate with three hits, including a double, and freshman Drake Obermueller of Iowa City had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs.

 

Sophomores Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., and Brock Moore of Urbandale also homered for DMACC and Crancer had two RBIs.

 

Sophomore Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., fell to 1-3 with the loss. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Redshirt freshman Jackson Gwin of Lafayette, Ind., went two-thirds of an inning and gave up four runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks and sophomore Sebastian Talaga of Palo Hills, Ill., allowed one run on one hit, struck out three and walked three in an inning and two-thirds. Redshirt freshman Jack Bunnell of Eddyville pitched one inning and walked one of the four batters he faced.
