DMACC baseball team takes 17-5 decision from Ellsworth

 

A pair of sophomores, Brock Moore of Urbandale and Austin Andersen of Marion, combined for seven hits and 10 runs batted in as the DMACC baseball team handed Ellsworth Community College (ECC) a 17-5 loss in a seven-inning game March 31 at Iowa Falls.

 

Moore homered, doubled and singled and drove in seven runs and Andersen had three singles and a double and came away with three RBIs as the Bears improved to 14-17 overall and 2-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC took a 4-0 lead in the first, made it a 6-0 game with two runs in the second and scored six runs in the third for a 12-0 lead. ECC closed to 12-3 with three runs in the bottom of the third before the Bears went up 13-3 with a run in the sixth. ECC scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and DMACC closed out the win with four runs in the seventh.

 

Moore drove in his first run on a sacrifice fly in the first and hit a run-scoring single in the second. He highlighted DMACC's six-run third inning with a grand slam home run and added an RBI double in the seventh.

 

Andersen hit a two-run double in the first and closed out DMACC's win with a run-scoring single in the seventh. He also singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

 

Moore and Andersen were the only two DMACC players with multiple hits in the game. The Bears also got doubles from redshirt freshman Brayden Foster of Alleman and sophomore Cole Baumgart of Clarinda and Foster drove in two runs.

 

Freshman Izzaq Zrust of Ladd, Ill., pitched the first five and two-thirds innings and stayed unbeaten at 4-0 with the win. He allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two. Freshman Jacob Luster of Huxley went an inning and a third, allowing three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Northeast (Iowa) Community College (NEICC) in a three-game series April 5 and 6 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 6 and a single game on April 5. NEICC is 3-23 overall and 0-6 in the ICCAC.
