Sophomore Brock Moore of Urbandale homered and drove in three runs and freshman Nolan Galla of Warrenville, Ill., had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the DMACC baseball team to an 11-3 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) April 29 at Marshalltown.
The win was the 29th of the season against 21 losses for the Bears, who ran their record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) to 17-7.
DMACC trailed 1-0 after the first inning and gained a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the second. MCC took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fourth and then fell behind for good when the Bears scored four runs in the top of the fifth. DMACC made it a 10-2 game with six runs in the sixth and MCC scored its other run in the bottom of the ninth.
Moore keyed DMACC's four-run rally in the fifth with a two-run homer and added another RBI on an infield grounder in the seventh.
Galla hit run-scoring singles in the second and seventh innings.
Freshman Brayden Foster of Alleman joined Galla with three hits in the game, including a double, and freshmen Drew Owen of Alleman and Drake Obermueller of Iowa City had two hits along with sophomore Austin Andersen of Marion. The Bears got a double from Owen and sophomore Trey Franck of Marion added a triple.
DMACC used 10 pitchers in the game with the win going to freshman Grayson Franck of Marion. Obermueller started for the Bears and gave up one run on one hit with three walks and was not credited with any innings pitched. Freshman Izzaq Zrust of Ladd, Ill., pitched two hitless innings, striking out six batters and walking one. Redshirt freshman Jack Sellnau of Anamosa went an inning and a third, allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks and Krisch, who improved to 1-1, pitched an inning and a third, giving up one hit and walking two batters. Sophomore Zack Turpin of Waukee went a third of an inning and retired the only batter he faced and redshirt freshman Hunter Cook of Polk City went one inning and struck out one of the three batters he faced. Sophomore Sebastian Talaga of Palo Hills, Ill., also pitched one inning and struck out one of the three batters he faced and sophomore Rhett Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter worked an inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout and one walk. Owen pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on one hit with three walks and a strikeout and Teeghen Rath of Cedar Falls went a third of an inning and retired the only batter he faced.
The DMACC baseball team will close out the regular season with a three-game series against Kirkwood Community College (KCC) May 1 and 2 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 1 and a single game on May 2. KCC is 43-7 overall and 19-5 in the ICCAC. The Eagles, who share the ICCAC lead with Southeastern Community College (SECC), are ranked fifth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
