Seven DMACC baseball players earn all-region honors

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) released the Division II All-Region Baseball Team today and the list includes seven members of the DMACC baseball team.

 

Freshman Drew Owen of Alleman was the lone DMACC baseball player named to the first team and he earned the honor as an outfielder.

 

Sophomore Brock Moore of Urbandale and freshmen Drake Obermueller of Iowa City and Izzaq Zrust of Ladd, Ill., earned second-team honors, Moore as a catcher, Obermueller as an infielder and Zrust as a starting pitcher.

 

Sophomores Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D., and Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake and freshman Brayden Foster of Polk City earned honorable mention recognition, Leininger as an infielder, Theiss as a starting pitcher and Foster as an outfielder.

 

Owen batted .454 this season with a .709 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. He had 86 hits in 203 at-bats and his hits included 20 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs. Owen, who ranked fourth in ICCAC play with 46 hits, drove in 63 runs and scored 75 runs. He was 10-of-15 in stolen bases. Owen compiled a .923 fielding percentage with 112 putouts, eight assists and 10 errors.

 

Moore batted .337 with a .729 slugging percentage and a .477 on-base percentage. His 56 hits from 166 at-bats included seven doubles, two triples and a team-leading 18 home runs. Moore drove in 66 runs and scored 51 runs. He had a .990 fielding percentage with 269 putouts, 17 assists and three errors.

 

Obermueller was a .388 hitter with a .644 slugging percentage and a .502 on-base percentage. He had 62 hits from 160 at-bats and his hits included 18 doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Obermueller drove in 45 runs, scored 50 runs and was 11-of-15 in stolen bases. He finished the season with a .905 fielding percentage on 44 putouts, 70 assists and 12 errors.

 

Zrust was 4-0 with a 5.11 earned run average this season. He pitched 44 innings, allowing 38 runs, 25 earned runs on 55 hits with 52 strikeouts and 20 walks.

 

Leininger put together a .292 season with a .591 slugging percentage and a .537 on-base percentage. He had 45 hits in 154 at-bats, including four doubles and 14 home runs. Leininger drove in 52 runs and scored 71 runs. He was 8-of-11 in stolen bases. Leininger's fielding percentage was .979 on 311 putouts, 23 assists and seven errors.

 

Theiss had a 5-3 record with a 4.60 earned run average and two saves. He pitched 45 innings, allowing 31 runs, 23 earned runs, on 47 hits with 38 strikeouts and 15 walks.

 

Foster hit .286 on 53 hits from 185 at-bats. His hits included 14 doubles and a home run. Foster drove in 37 runs and scored 59 runs. He was 17-of-19 in stolen bases. Foster had a .961 fielding percentage on 98 putouts, one assist and four errors.

 

The DMACC baseball team finished the season with a 33-25 overall record and an 18-9 record in the ICCAC, good for fourth place in the league standings. The Bears were 3-2 in the Region 11 Baseball Tournament and were one of three teams remaining in the tournament when the dropped an 11-2 decision to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in an elimination game.
