DMACC men's basketball team stays unbeaten with two wins in DMACC Classic

 

Sophomore Kaden Tate of Pearland, Texas, and freshman Shelton Colwell, Jr., of Newark, N.J., scored 12 points apiece to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 106-66 win over Community Christian Community College (CCCC) in the DMACC Classic November 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshmen Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., and sophomore Jayden Jones of Katy, Texas, scored 16 and 15 points respectively as the Bears completed a two-game tournament sweep behind an 85-76 win over Edison State Community College (ESCC) Nov. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

With the two wins, the Bears stayed unbeaten at 6-0. They are ranked fifth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Taylor and freshman Kiki Deng of Des Moines reached double digits with 11 points apiece and Jones had 10 points in DMACC's win over CCCC. The Bears had a 53-32 advantage at halftime and never looked back in handing the Lions their third loss in six games this season. CCCC was led by Terrance Hicks and Jeremy Willingham with 14 and 13 points respectively.

 

DMACC shot 52 percent in the win, making 44 of 84 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-27 from three-point range and 11-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

CCCC made 22 of 54 field goal attempts for 41 percent shooting. The Lions were 5-of-17 from three-point range and 17-of-32 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Solomon Mosley of Chicago, Ill., grabbed eight rebounds and Tate and freshman Landen Norris of Knoxville had seven and six respectively as DMACC came away with a 51-28 advantage on the boards. Deng topped the Bears in assists with five and Taylor and freshman Malcolm Bragg of Newark, N.J., added four apiece. Taylor and Deng led the way in steals with three apiece.

 

DMACC grabbed a 45-32 halftime against ESCC and got the win despite being outscored 44-40 in the second half.

 

The Bears made 27 of 60 field goal attempts for 45 percent, including 6-of-24 from three-point range. They were successful on 25 of 32 attempts from the free throw line.

 

ESCC, led by 19 points from Frank Lathem and 18 by Malcolm Curry, was 24 of 58 from the field for 41 percent. The Chargers made seven of 13 three-point attempts and went 21-of-29 from the free throw line.

 

Tate's 13 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 41-35 advantage on the boards. Taylor and Tate led the Bears in assists with three apiece and Deng had a team-high two steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball will make a two-game road trip to Illinois later this week. The Bears will play Spoon River Community College (SRCC) Nov. 20 at Canton, Ill., and will face Kishwaukee Community College (KCC) Nov. 21 at Malta Ill.

 

SRCC is 1-5 this season, including a 76-67 loss to DMACC Nov. 8 in the DMACC Classic. The Spartans will play Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) Nov. 19 before meeting the Bears on the 20th.

 

KCC is 0-6 this season and will face Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) Nov. 19 before playing DMACC on the 21st.
