Sophomore Kaden Tate of Pearland, Texas, scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the DMACC men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to 10 games behind an 80-64 decision against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) January 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Sophomores Landen Norris of Knoxville and Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., scored 14 and 12 points respectively as the Bears improved to 16-1 overall and stayed unbeaten in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at 8-0.
DMACC, ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led 37-31 at halftime and outscored the Lakers 43-33 in the second half in coming away with the win.
ILCC, led by Jermaine Freeman's game-high 29 points, fell to 2-15 and 0-8.
DMACC shot 46 percent in the win, making 30-of-65 field goal attempts, including going 5-of-22 from three-point range. The Bears drained 15 of 25 free throw attempts.
ILCC was 21 of 64 from the field for 33 percent. The Lakers made eight of 18 attempts from beyond the arc and were 14-of-24 from the free throw line.
ILCC came away with a 48-34 advantage in rebounding with Tate's eight rebounds leading DMACC. Freshmen Solomon Mosley of Chicago, Ill., and Hunter Gawron of Skokie, Ill., had six and five rebounds respectively. Tate also led the Bears in assists with four and freshman Malcolm Bragg of Newark, N.J., had a team-high five steals.
The DMACC men's basketball team will face Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 14 at Council Bluffs. The Reivers are ranked 11th in NJCAA Division II. They are 16-1 overall and 7-1 in the ICCAC.
