- Freshman Jayden Jones leads DMACC with 17 points
- Freshman Brent Taylor and sophomores Kayden Tate and Rylan Smith also score in double figures
- Bears run winning streak to 18 consecutive games
Freshman Jayden Jones of Katy, Texas, led four players in double figures with 17 points as the DMACC men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to 18 games behind an 84-58 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) February 7 at Estherville.
Freshman Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., scored 13 points and sophomores Kayden Tate of Pearland, Texas and Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., tallied 10 points apiece as the Bears, ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJACC), improved to 24-1 overall and 15-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
ILCC got a game-high 19 points from Jermaine Freeman. The Lakers fell to 3-22 and 1-14.
DMACC led throughout the game in sweeping its series against the Lakers. The Bears were up 38-25 at halftime and led by as many as 26 points in the second half.
DMACC shot 50 percent for the game, making 35 of 70 field, including 9-of-32 from three-point range. The Bears were 5-of-11 at the free throw line.
ILCC made 20 of 60 field goal attempts for 33 percent. The Lakers made five of 21 shots from three-point range and went 13-of-19 from the free throw line.
Both teams grabbed 41 rebounds. Tate led DMACC with eight rebounds and Taylor and freshman Solomon Mosley of Chicago, Ill., had six and five respectively. Smith led the Bears in assists with five and Taylor, Tate and freshman Malcolm Bragg of Newark, N.J., had two steals apiece.
The DMACC men's basketball team will be home to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Feb. 11. The Trojans are 14-11 overall and 6-9 in the ICCAC. Their losses include a 94-76 setback against DMACC Jan. 7 at Mason City.
