Freshman Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., led five players in double figures with 17 points as the DMACC men's basketball team stretched its current winning streak to 19 games with a 99-66 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) February 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Sophomore Kaden Tate of Pearland, Texas, had 16 points, freshman Landen Norris of Knoxville scored 15 and freshmen Malcolm Bragg of Newark, N.J., and Kavon Phillips of Davenport had 10 points apiece as the Bears improved to 25-1 overall and 16-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
DMACC, ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), never trailed after scoring the game's first 10 points. They led 36-13 with the game just more than 10 minutes old, then cooled off a bit as NIACC closed to 36-24 behind an 11-point run. DMACC led 51-37 at halftime and scored the first 12 points of the second half for a commanding 63-37 advantage with just more than 17 minutes to play. NIACC never got closer than 19 points the rest of the way. The final margin was the Bears' largest of the game.
DMACC shot 46.2 percent with 36 field goals from 78attempts. The Bears were 14-of-43 from three-point range and 13-of-16 from the free throw line.
NIACC fell to 14-12 overall and 6-10 in the ICCAC. The Trojans, led by T.J. Cusciotta's 15 points, were 22 of 72 from the field for 31 percent. They made seven of 27 attempts from beyond the arc and were 15-of-20 from the free throw line.
DMACC had a 55-38 advantage on the boards. Tate led the Bears with nine rebounds, Phillips had seven and Bragg came away with six. Norris and Rylan Smith led the Bears in assists with five.
The DMACC men's basketball team will face Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Reivers, ranked 19th, are 20-6 overall and 10-6 in the ICCAC. Their losses include an 88-82 decision against DMACC Jan. 14 at Council Bluffs.
