DMACC's Kaden Tate named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Tate had 31 points and 18 rebounds in two DMACC wins during the week
  • Tate had 16 points and nine rebounds in a 99-66 win over NIACC
  • Tate scored 15 points with nine rebounds in a 97-67 win over IWCC

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kaden Tate the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 9-15.

 

Tate, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, is being honored for the second time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Tate was also honored the week of Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.

 

Freshman Kiki Deng of Des Moines was honored the weeks of Jan. 12 to 18 and Nov. 24 to 30. Sophomore Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., was honored the week of Dec. 15 to 21 and freshman Hunter Gawron of Skokie, Ill., was honored the week of Dec. 8 to 14.

 

Tate scored 31 points and came away with 18 rebounds as the Bears recorded two wins during the week. He had 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a steal and four blocked shots in a 99-66 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Feb. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium and had 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and a blocked shot in a 97-67 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 14, also inside the DMACC gymnasium.

Tate shot 52 percent from the field during the week, making 11 of 21 field goal attempts. He was 1-of-3 from three-point range and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

 

Tate has scored 262 points this season and is averaging 9.7 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. He is shooting 64 percent from the field, having made 101 of 157 field goal attempts. Tate is 2-of-14 from three-point range and 58-of-112 from the free throw line.

 

Tate has a team-leading 221 rebounds, including 136 defensive rebounds. His season also includes 50 assists, 48 steals and a team-high 60 blocked shots.

 

Tate leads the ICCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots and is fifth in steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, 26-1 overall and 17-0 in the ICCAC, is ranked second in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and is riding a 20-game winning streak. The Bears have clinched at least a tie for their third consecutive ICCAC regular-season championship and can win the title outright with one victory in their last three games.

 

The Bears face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 12-11 overall and 8-9 in the ICCAC. The Hawks' losses include a 106-66 against DMACC Dec. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
