DMACC's Kaden Tate named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Tate scored 32 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in two DMACC wins during the week
  • Tate's week also included two assists, three steals and six blocked shots
  • Tate leads the ICCAC in field goal percentage and is third in rebounds per game

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kaden Tate the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 16 to 22.

 

Tate, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, is being honored by the conference for the third time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored this season. He was also honored the weeks of Feb. 9 to 15 and Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.

 

Freshman Kiki Deng of Des Moines, sophomore Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., and freshman Hunter Gawron of Skokie, Ill., have also been honored by the ICCAC. Deng has been honored twice, the weeks of Jan. 12 to 18 and Nov. 24 to 30. Smith was honored the week of Dec. 15 to 21 and Gawron was honored the week of Dec. 8 to 14.

 

Tate scored 32 points and pulled down 24 rebounds as the Bears, ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), recorded wins over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) and Kirkwood Community College (KCC) during the week. He had 19 points, eight rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot in a 105-88 win over NECC Feb. 18 at Norfolk, Neb., and came away with 13 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, two steals and five blocked shots in an 89-85 win over KCC Feb. 21 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Tate has scored 294 points and pulled down 244 rebounds this season, averaging 10.1 points and 8.4 rebounds a game. He is shooting 66 percent from the field, having made 114 of 174 field goal attempts. Tate has made two of 14 attempts from three-point range and is 64-of-121 from the free throw line.

 

Tate's season also includes 52 assists, 51 steals and 66 blocked shots.

 

Tate leads Division II of the ICCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots and is third in rebounds per game.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team is 28-1 overall, 19-0 in the ICCAC and riding a 22-game winning streak. The Bears have clinched their sixth ICCAC regular season championship since 2020, including outright titles in 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2021. They tied for the championship in 2022 and 2020.
