- Freshman Archie Nelson leads DMACC with a tie for 20th place
- Freshmen Grady Sigrist and Noah Moberg tie for 30th and 34th respectively
- Sophomore Luke Linde and freshman Cade Sunde tie for 44th place
Freshman Archie Moore of Albert Lea, Minn., turned in a 5-over-par 77 in the second round of the Southwest Premier April 23 at Panorama National Golf Course in Panora leading the DMACC men's golf team to a seventh place finish in the team competition.
The Bears posted a 317 in the second round and that score combined with a 304 in the first round gave DMACC a 36-hole total of 621, 45 over par on the par 72 layout. DMACC B finished eighth with a 632 after shooting 316 in both rounds.
Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) took the team championship with 596 strokes. The Reivers posted a 294 in the second round, the lowest round of the two-day tournament. Kirkwood Community College (KCC) finished second at 604 after shooting 305 in the second round and Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENCC) was third at 607. The Hawks shot a 307 in the second round.
IWCC golfers Sam Wehman and William Welsh shared medalist honors with KCC's Ryan Lynch. All three players finished the tournament at 3-over-par 147.
Nelson's 77 and a 76 in the opening round gave him a 36-hole score of 153 and a tie for 20th place in the individual competition. Freshmen Grady Sigrist of Norwalk and Noah Moberg of Grimes tied for 30th and 34th respectively and sophomore Luke Linde of Winterset and freshman Cade Sunde of West Des Moines tied for 44th place. Sigrist posted a 36-hole score of 155 after shooting an 82 in the second round and Moberg was at 157 following an 81 in the second round. Linde had a 79 in the second round and Sunde posted an 80 giving each a 36-hole score of 159.
Fareez Alexander of Kimberly Western Cape, South Africa led DMACC with a tie for 20th place after shooting a 79 in the second round. His two-day total matched Nelson's 153. Sophomore Ryan Schmierer of North Liberty tied for 39th and freshman Ethan Nace of Iowa City tied for 47th. Schmierer shot an 81 in the second round and had a two-day total of 158 and Nace was at 160 following a 77 in the second round.
Sophomore Joey Currans of Ames and freshman Brock Wilson of Peosta rounded out DMACC B's performance with a tie for 52nd and a tie for 66th respectively. Currans turned in a 79 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 161 and Wilson was at 170 following an 86 in the second round.
The DMACC men's golf team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) North Central District Championship May 3 to 5 at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City.
