The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Pitcher of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of March 23 to 29.
Jungers, a sophomore from Fonda, is being honored by the conference for the third time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15. Sophomore Macee Reiling of Dallas Center was honored for her hitting the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15 and freshman Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines has been honored for her hitting the weeks of March 23 to 29 and March 16 to 22.
Jungers won four games, allowed just one run and stuck out 45 batters in pitching 24 innings during the week. She allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked one over four innings in a 10-1 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) March 24 at the DMACC softball diamond.
Jungers allowed three hits over six innings, struck out 12 and walked three in a 16-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) March 26 at Creston and stuck out 17 batters and allowed three hits in seven innings in a 6-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 28 at Estherville.
Jungers allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in pitching seven innings in an 8-1 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) March 29 at Fort Dodge.
Jungers is 11-5 with a 1.39 earned run average this season. She has pitched 100.2 innings, allowing 28 runs, 20 earned runs, on 44 hits. She has struck out 186 batters and walked 22. Jungers, who has thrown nine complete games, is averaging 12.92 strikeouts per nine innings and is allowing 0.66 hits and walks per inning.
Jungers leads the ICCAC in strikeouts. She is second in ERA and fifth in wins.
The DMACC softball team is 30-7 overall, 13-1 in the ICCAC and is ranked ninth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears, who have a 13-game winning streak, will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a doubleheader April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond. NIACC is 25-12 overall and 10-4 in the ICCAC. The Trojans are ranked 23rd in NJCAA Division II.
