The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the weeks of April 6 to 12 and April 13 to 19.
Jungers, a sophomore from Fonda, is being honored by the ICCAC for the fifth time this spring and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. She was also honored the weeks of March 23 to 29, Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15.
Bri Tigges, a sophomore from Urbandale, Mackenzie Mohler, a freshman from West Des Moines and Macee Reiling, a sophomore from Dallas Center, have been honored for their hitting, Tigges the week of April 13 to 19. Mohler and Reiling have each been honored twice, Mohler the weeks of March 23 to 29 and March 16 to 22 and Reiling the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15.
Jungers went 7-1 during the two week period. She pitched 45 innings, allowing 15 runs, nine earned runs, on 23 hits with 76 strikeouts and eight walks.
Jungers went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks in a 10-2 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond and threw two innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts in a 17-8 win over Northeast (Iowa) Community College (NEICC) April 7 at Ankeny.
Jungers' only loss of the two-week time frame came in a 7-1 decision against top-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) April 8 at the DMACC softball diamond. She went six innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. Jungers bounced back with a 12-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 10 at Mason City, surrendering one run on three hits with 14 strikeouts over seven innings.
Jungers beat NEICC for the second time this season, 11-0, April 13 at Farley. She pitched a no-hitter over five innings with 10 strikeouts. She added to her win total in a 3-0 decision against Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 17 at Iowa Falls, allowing five hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
Jungers tossed a one-hitter in a 10-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 18 at the DMACC softball diamond, getting nine strikeouts and allowing one walk over five innings and she concluded the week with a 9-2 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) April 19 at the DMACC softball diamond. She allowed two runs on three hits, struck out 11 and walked one.
Jungers is 17-6 with a 1.49 earned run average this season. She has pitched 145 and two-thirds innings, allowing 43 runs, 31 earned runs, on 67 hits. She has struck out 262 batters and walked 30. Jungers, who is averaging 12.59 strikeouts per seven innings, has pitched 16 complete games and has earned one save. She is averaging .67 walks and hits per innings.
Jungers leads the ICCAC in strikeouts and is second in ERA and fourth in wins.
