- DMACC beats Northeast CC and Iowa Central CC in winning the title
- Bears are 58-10 with an 18-game winning streak
- DMACC will face Dawson CC in Northwest Plains B tournament
The DMACC softball team ran its winning streak to 18 games after recording three wins in the Region 11-B softball tournament May 1 to 3 at the DMACC softball diamond.
The Bears, ranked 10 in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENCC) 5-0 in their tournament opener on May 1 and handed Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) 4-1 and 5-2 losses on May 2 and 3 respectively in winning the championship.
The title was DMACC's 12 consecutive dating back to 2014. The Bears, who improved to 58-10 with their 18th straight win, also won the championship in 2012.
Sophomore Jacki Baas of Bondurant tossed a three-hitter and freshman Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines drove in three runs in the Bears' win over NENCC. DMACC led 1-0 after the first inning, made it a 2-0 game with a run in the second and closed out the win with three runs in the fifth inning.
Baas, who improved to 24-4 with the win, pitched the first five innings, striking out four batters and walking two. Sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda went two innings and struck out all six batters she faced.
Mohler paced the Bears at the plate with three hits, including a pair of doubles. DMACC got a pair of hits from freshman double from freshman Cali Richards of Des Moines, including a double.
Sophomores Mo Purdy of Des Moines, Erin Ades of Boone and Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand each homered in DMACC's win over ICCC on May 2. The Bears trailed 1-0 after ICCC batted in the top of the fourth and took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. They closed out the win with one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Jungers pitched all seven innings and earned the win, her 21st against six losses. She allowed one run on four hits and struck out 12 batters.
Richards belted a home run and Neuroth had a pair of base hits in DMACC's win over ICCC in the championship game on May 3. The Bears led 1-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after scoring two runs in the second. ICCC made it a 3-2 game with two runs in the top of the third and DMACC closed out the win with one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
The win gave DMACC a sweep of all six games against the Tritons this season.
Baas pitched the first three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Jungers went the last four innings and got her 22nd win of the season. She did not surrender a hit and struck out six batters.
The DMACC softball team will play Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains B District championship May 7 and 8 at Glendive, Mont. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 7 and a single game, if necessary, on May 8. DCC, coming off its fourth consecutive Region XIII title, is 30-14 with a six-game winning streak.
The Northwest Plains B District winner will advance to the 2026 NJCAA Division II Softball Championship May 19 to 24 at Spartanburg, S.C. DMACC is seeking its 12th consecutive appearance in the national championship and its 13th since 2012.
