DMACC women's golf team wins North Plains District Regional; qualifies for national championship

 

All four members of the DMACC women's golf team finished eighth or better as the Bears claimed the North Plains District Regional championship April 29 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.

 

DMACC, which shot a 340 in the first round on April 28 and was tied for first place with Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), turned in a 330 in the second round to complete the 36-hole tournament with 670 strokes and an eight-stroke advantage over ICCC. The Tritons posted a 338 in their second round for a 36-hole total of 678 and finished 18 strokes ahead of North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) which posted a 36-hole score of 705.

 

Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) and Hawkeye Community College (HCC) finished fourth and fifth respectively. ILCC closed with 731 strokes and HCC was at 843.

 

DMACC, ICCC and NIACC all qualified for the inaugural 2025 NJCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship May 13 to 16 at Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone.

 

Sophomore Halle Hagberg of Polk City led DMACC to the championship with rounds of 81 and 80 for a 36-hole score of 161. She finished second in the individual competition, 13 strokes behind the winning total of 154 by Ivanna Becerra-Diaz of ICCC. Becerra-Diaz won the title on two rounds of 77.

 

DMACC sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, tied for third place, freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert was sixth and sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon finished in eight place. The Bears got rounds of 83 and 79 from van Hemert for a two-day total of 162. Loonan shot rounds of 89 and 82 for a 36-hole score of 171 and Houtakker posted score of 87 and 89 to finish at 176.

 

Freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell also played for DMACC on the second day and shot a 94. She finished in 30th place.
