- Sophomore Reagan Wheeler leads DMACC with 17 kills
- Freshman Ramsey Johnston has 11 kills, 28 assists, 12 digs and six blocks
- Sophomore Lauren Sandvold comes away with 21 digs
Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls led three players in double figures in kills with 17 as the DMACC volleyball team took a 3-1 decision from Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) October 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Freshmen Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter and Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., added 12 and 11 kills respectively as the Bears won by set scores of 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 25-15.
DMACC, which improved to 23-13 overall, came into the match ranked 18th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. IHCC is ranked 15th in NJCAA Division I.
Wheeler got her 17 kills from 31 attacks with four hitting errors to hit .419. As a team, DMACC hit .228 with 51 kills from 145 attacks with 18 hitting errors.
Johnston led the Bears in assists with 28 and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown had 10. Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls topped DMACC in digs with 21 and sophomore Riley Starkey of Rockford, Ill., Johnston and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion added 13, 12 and 10 digs respectively.
Sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny led the Bears in blocks with nine block assists and Johnston finished with six blocks, including five block assists.
The DMACC volleyball team will close out the regular season against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Oct. 29 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m. DMACC is 8-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and NIACC is 14-17 overall and 3-8 in ICCAC play.
