The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ava Manning the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Women's Cross Country for the week of October 6 to 12.
Manning, a sophomore from Des Moines, is being honored by the conference for the third time this season and she is the only member of the DMACC women's cross country team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the week of Sept. 22 to 28 and Sept. 8 to 14.
Manning turned in a time of 18 minutes, 46 seconds over the 5K course in leading the Bears to a third-place finish in the team standings. Her time was the second best among community college runners and she finished fourth overall.
Manning took medalist honors in the Trent Smith Invitational Sept. 13 at Mason City, posting a time of 18:43 and leading DMACC to a second-place finish behind Wartburg College (WC). Her time of 24:14 on a 6K course gave her a ninth-place finish and helped the Bears to a tie for third place in the Dutch Open Sept. 26 at Pella.
The DMACC women's cross country team, ranked seventh in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), will compete in the Region 11 Championships Oct. 24 at Fort Dodge.
