Sophomore Brock Moore of Urbandale homered and drove in four runs as the DMACC baseball team opened the home portion of its schedule with a 10-1 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) March 4 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
Redshirt freshman Brayden Foster and sophomore Isaac Zoske, both of Alleman, drove in two runs apiece as the Bears improved to 8-9 for the season.
SWCC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, fell to 6-11.
DMACC never trailed. The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, led 4-0 after a three-run rally in the third and were up 7-1 after four innings. They scored their final three runs in the seventh inning.
Sophomore Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., and freshman Drew Owen of Alleman paced DMACC at the plate with three singles apiece and freshmen Drake Obermueller of Iowa City and Nolan Galla of Warrenville, Ill., had two hits apiece. Extra-base hits in addition to Moore's home run included a double by Obermueller.
Freshman Ben Hites of Oak Creek, Wis., pitched the first four innings for the Bears and improved to 2-0 with the win. He allowed one run on four hits, struck out one batter and walked three. Freshman Grayson Kirsch of Marion also pitched four innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts and a walk and redshirt freshman Garrett Roethler of Oskaloosa went one inning and struck out one of the three batters he faced.
The DMACC baseball team will face Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) in a doubleheader today at Centerville. IHCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 8-4 this season. The two teams will play another doubleheader March 8 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
