DMACC volleyball team drops 3-1 decision to Hawkeye

The DMACC volleyball team slipped to 4-2 for the season following a 3-1 loss to Hawkeye Community College (HCC) August 29 at Waterloo.

 

HCC, ranked 11th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22. DMACC came into the match ranked 16th and improved to 12th in this week's poll.

 

Both teams are members of Division II of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) but the match does not count in the conference standings. The two teams will play Oct. 13 inside the DMACC gymnasium in the official conference match.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport led the Bears with 11 kills and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk added six kills. The Bears hit just .097 in the match, getting 35 kills from 165 attacks with 19 hitting errors.

 

CoFR Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona topped DMACC in assists with 11 and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada and CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson had eight and seven respectively. Pierce came away with two ace serves and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque topped the Bears in digs with 22. Welch and Tupper had 13 digs apiece and CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville added 12. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker had a team-high seven blocks, including four block assists. Welch had five blocks, including four block assists, and CoFr Chloe Gilgen of Modale finished with five block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Sept. 1 in its home opener. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The match will also be the ICCAC opener for both teams.
