DMACC volleyball team sweeps NIACC, 3-0

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport had 11 kills and hit .412 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) September 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 12th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), ended a two-match losing streak in winning by set scores of 25-21, 25-10, 25-15. They improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Welch hit .412 in the win, getting her 11 kills from 17 attacks with two hitting errors. CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk and CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll finished with six kills apiece. DMACC hit .284 with 31 kills coming from 74 attacks with 10 hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson and CoFR Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona finished with 11 and nine assists respectively and Pierce, CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque, CoFR Karlee Timm of Victor and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had two ace serves apiece.

 

Hansen led the Bears in digs with 12 and Welch and Eddy had six apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Sept. 8 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are ranked second in NJCAA Division II. They are undefeated at 8-0 overall and are 1-0 in the ICCAC.
