The DMACC volleyball team fell to 14-9 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 3-0 loss to Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in a match featuring ranked teams October 13 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
HCC, the No. 14 team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won by set scores of 26-24, 25-19, 25-20. DMACC is ranked 15th in NJCAA Division II.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Abby Allmon of Norwalk led DMAC with eight kills, CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport had seven and CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton finished with five apiece. The Bears hit a disappointing .135 in the loss, getting 32 kills from 126 attacks with 15 hitting errors.
CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led DMACC in assists with 17 and Welch and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque had two ace serves apiece. Welch topped five DMACC players in double figures in digs with 15. Hansen came away with 14, CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada had 12 and Eddy and CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville had 11 apiece. Weinkoetz came away with four block assists and CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker also had four blocks, including two block assists.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Triton Volleyball Tournament Oct. 15 at Fort Dodge. The Bears will face Cowley County Community College (CCCC) in their first match and will play Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) in their second match. CCCC is ranked second in NJCAA Division II. CCC is not ranked.
