The DMACC volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) October 27 at Norfolk, Neb.
NECC won by set scores of 28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-5 to hand the Bears their 14th loss of the season against 18 wins. DMACC tied for fourth in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 5-4 record.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Anna Niehaus of Carroll led the Bears with 19 kills and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk added 12. The Bears hit just .108 in the loss, getting 51 kills from 203 attacks with 29 hitting errors.
CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led DMACC in assists with 44 and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada contributed three ace serves. CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led six players in double figures in digs with 26. CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville finished with 18 digs, Tupper and CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport had 16 apiece, Hansen had 12 and Niehaus added 11. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker had seven blocks, including six block assists. CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had six block assists, Allmon finished with five and Welch had three. Niehaus and Hansen had three blocks apiece, including two block assists apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-A semifinals Oct. 30 at Fort Dodge. DMACC, the No. 4 seed, defeated the fifth-seeded Blackhawks 3-0 during the regular season. The DMACC-SECC winner will play either Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) or North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the Region XI-A championship match Oct. 31 at Fort Dodge. ICCC is the No. 1 seed and NIACC is seeded eighth.
DMACC defeated NIACC 3-0 in a regular-season match Sept. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. ICCC, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II poll, defeated DMACC twice during the regular season, both wins coming by 3-0 scores.
Four other members of the ICCAC will play in the Region XI-B Tournament. The highest-seeded champion from both tournaments will advance to the national tournament Nov. 18 to 20 at Cedar Rapids. The lowest seeded champion advances to the North Central B District Championship Nov. 6 at the home of the Region 16 champion. The North Central B District champion also advances to the national tournament.
