The DMACC volleyball team fell to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping a three-set match to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) September 3 at Cedar Rapids.
The Eagles, ranked seventh in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic association (NJCAA) came away with a 25-8, 25-14, 25-23 win to improve to 6-0 for the season and 2-0 in the ICCAC. DMACC is ranked 15th in NJCAA Division II.
Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter led DMACC with four kills and sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls added three. The Bears had just 11 kills in the match.
Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., led the way in assists with seven and added three ace serves and six digs. Freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., topped DMACC in digs with nine and sophomores Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown and Lauren Sundvold of Cedar Falls had eight apiece.
Sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny came away with four blocks, including three block assists. Johnston, Wheeler and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo had two blocks apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team will face Butler County Community College (BCCC) and Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Sept. 5 at Council Bluffs. BCCC brings a 5-4 record into its match against DMACC. IWCC is 7-1 and is ranked 16th in NJCAA Division I.
