Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls collected 27 kills as the DMACC volleyball team split matches against Butler County Community College (BCCC) and Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) September 5 at Council Bluffs.
Wheeler had 11 kills in a 3-0 win over BCCC and came away with 16 in a 3-2 loss to IWCC.
DMACC, ranked 16th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 6-5 for the season.
Wheeler hit .267 with her 11 kills coming from 30 attacks with three hitting errors as the Bears handed BCCC a 25-11, 26-24, 24-26, 25-12 loss. Freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., added 10 kills and freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., finished with seven.
DMACC hit .211 in the win, getting 42 kills from 142 attacks with 12 hitting errors.
Ramsey led the Bears in assists with 22 and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown finished with 12. Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls contributed seven ace serves and Johnston and Anderson had two apiece.
Sandvold topped DMACC in digs with 23. Johnston and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion had 20 apiece and Lukkarinen finished with 19.
Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo led the Bears in blocks with 12 block assists. Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter added five block assists and Wheeler had five blocks, including four block assists. Johnston added four block assists.
Wheeler hit .283 in DMACC's 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 11-15 loss to IWCC, the No. 19 team in NJCAA Division I. She got her 16 kills from 46 attacks with three hitting errors. Johnston added 14 kills and Wrage came away with 10.
DMACC hit .205, getting 52 kills from 151 attacks with 19 hitting errors.
Sandvold topped the Bears in assists with 23 and Johnston added 15 to go with three ace serves. Johnson added a pair of ace serves.
Sandvold led five DMACC players in double figures in digs with 32. Anderson added 23, Lukkarinen came away with 15 and Johnson and Johnston had 14 and 13 respectively.
Wrage led the Bears in blocks with eight, including seven block assists. Johnston had four block assists and Lyftogt and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny contributed three block assists apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup tonight at Marshalltown. DMACC is 1-1 in conference play. MCC is 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the ICCAC.
