Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter had 11 kills and hit .375 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) September 9 at Marshalltown.

 

The Bears, ranked 16th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-20 to improve to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The win gives DMACC volleyball coach Danielle Lopez her 100th career coaching victory.

 

Lyftogt got her 11 kills from 24 attacks with just two hitting errors for a .375 hitting percentage. Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., added eight kills and her night included 15 assists, three ace serves, nine digs and four block assists. Johnston's kills came from 17 attacks with three hitting errors for a .353 hitting percentage.

 

As a team DMACC hit .267 with 40 kills from 101 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown led the Bears in assists with 17 and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion came away with two ace serves.

 

Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls topped DMACC in digs with 15 and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny had four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC is 3-9 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC.
