DMACC's Danica Wrage named ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Danica Wrage the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the week of September 1 to 7.

 

Wrage, a sophomore from Waterloo, is being honored by the conference for the second consecutive week. She is the only member of the DMACC volleyball team to have been honored by the conference thus far this season.

 

Wrage collected 22 blocks in three matches during the week, including a career-high 12 blocks assists in a 3-1 win over Butler County Community College (BCCC) September 5 at Council Bluffs. She came away with eight block assists in a 3-2 loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Sept. 5, also at Council Bluffs. Wrage had two block assists in a 3-0 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Sept. 3 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Wrage, who leads the ICCAC in blocks per set at 1.44, has 59 blocks in 12 matches this season, including 57 block assists. Overall, she is averaging 1.40 blocks per set. That average puts her ninth in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Wrage's season also includes 52 kills, one assists, six ace serves and 30 digs.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is ranked 16th in this week's Division II poll from the NJCAA. The Bears, 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC, face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC is 3-9 and 2-1.
