DMACC's Ramsey Johnston named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Johnston had 21 kills, 24 assists and four ace serves in two DMACC wins
  • Johnston averaged 3.5 kills per set during the week
  • Johnston is the second member of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ramsey Johnston the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball for the week of September 8 to 14.

 

Johnston, a freshman from Chaska, Minn., is the second member of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season. Danica Wrage, a sophomore from Waterloo, was honored for her blocking performances the weeks of Aug. 25 to 31 and Sept. 1 to 7.

 

Johnston averaged 3.5 kills per set as the Bears swept matches against Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Northeast (Neb.) Community College during the week. She had eight kills, 15 assists, three ace serves, nine digs and four block assists in a 3-0 win over MCC Sept. 9 at Marshalltown and recorded 13 kills, nine assists, one ace serve, seven digs and two block assists in a 3-0 win over NECC Sept. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Johnston hit .405 for the week, getting 21 kills from 42 attacks with four hitting errors.

 

Johnston is hitting .289 for the season with 70 kills from 190 attacks with 15 hitting errors. Her season also includes 105 assists, 14 ace serves, 91 digs and 26 blocks, including 23 block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears are 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the ICCAC.

 

DMACC will play in the Parkland Tournament Sept. 19 and 20 at Champaign, Ill. The Bears will face Parkland College (PC) and Danville Area Community College (DACC) on Sept. 19 and will play Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) and Wabash Valley Community College (WVCC) on Sept. 20. PC is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II and HCC is ranked fourth.
