DMACC volleyball team drops three-set match to Upper Iowa JV

 

The DMACC volleyball team fell to 8-6 for the season after dropping a three-set match to the Upper Iowa University Junior Varsity (UPUJV) September 16 at Fayette. UIUJV won by set scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.

 

Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls paced DMACC with nine kills. Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter had seven and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo and freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., finished with four apiece.

 

DMACC, ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), hit .152 in the match, getting 29 kills from 132 attacks with nine hitting errors.

 

Freshman Riley Starkey of Rockford, Ill., led the Bears in assists with seven. Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls and freshman Saige De Jong of Pella contributed six assists apiece and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown added five.

 

Sandvold had four ace serves and 18 digs. Lukkarinen led the Bears in digs with 19.

Wrage paced DMACC in blocks with four block assists and Wheeler and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny had three block assists apiece.

 

DMACC will play in the Parkland Tournament today and Sept. 20 at Champaign, Ill. The Bears will face Parkland College (PC) and Danville Area Community College (DACC) today and will play Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) and Wabash Valley Community College (WVCC) on Sept. 20. PC is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II and HCC is ranked fourth.
