The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Lauren Sandvold the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the week of September 15 to 21.
Sandvold, a sophomore from Cedar Falls, is being honored by the conference for the first time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season. Danica Wrage, a sophomore from Waterloo, was honored for her blocking the weeks of Aug. 25 to 31 and Sept. 1 to 7 and Ramsey Johnston, a freshman from Chaska, Minn., was honored the week of Sept. 8 to 14.
Sandvold recorded 79 digs as the Bears won three of five matches during the week. She had 18 digs in a 3-0 loss to the Upper Iowa University Junior Varsity on Sept. 16 and came away with 15 in DMACC's 3-2 upset win over sixth-ranked Parkland College (PC) Sept. 19 in the Parkland Tournament at Champaign, Ill. Sandvold came away with 14 digs in the Bears' 3-0 win over Danville Area Community College (DACC), also on Sept. 19, and finished with 18 and 14 digs respectively in a 3-0 loss to fourth-ranked Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) and a 3-0 win over Wabash Valley College (WVC) on Sept. 20, the second day of the Parkland Tournament.
Sandvold, who has come away with double digit digs in every match this season, has 349 digs in 19 matches and is averaging 5.45 digs per set. She leads the ICCAC in digs and digs per set.
Sandvold's season also includes one kill, 75 assists and 27 ace serves.
