The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Lauren Sandvold the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the week of September 22 to 28.
Sandvold, a sophomore from Cedar Falls, is being honored for the second consecutive week and she is one of two members of the DMACC volleyball team to have been honored in back-to-back weeks.
Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo was honored for her blocking the weeks of Aug. 25 to 31 and Sept. 1 to 7.
Sandvold is also the third member of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., was honored the week of Sept. 8 to 14.
Sandvold collected 69 digs in 11 sets during the week. She had 19 digs in a 3-0 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) on Sept. 24 at Columbus, Neb., and came away with 25 digs in a 3-2 loss to No. 17 Neosho County Community College (NCCC) in the DMACC Invitational Sept. 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Sandvold also had 25 digs in a 3-0 win over East Central College (ECC) Sept. 27 in the DMACC Invitational.
Sandvold has 419 digs in 75 sets this season and is averaging 5.59 digs per set. She leads the ICCAC in digs and digs per set and is ranked 12th in digs per set in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Sandvold's season also includes one kill, 86 assists and 29 ace serves.
The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the NJCAA, is home to Southeastern Community College (SECC). Tonight. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
DMACC is 4-2 in the ICCAC. SECC is 16-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
