DMACC volleyball team drops 3-1 decision to Southeastern

 

The DMACC volleyball team fell to 13-10 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping a 3-1 decision to Southeastern Community College (SECC) October 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, lost by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 22-25.

 

SECC improved to 17-10 and 6-2 with the win.

 

Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls led DMACC with 10 kills. Sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny had eight, freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., finished with seven and freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter came away with six.

 

The Bears hit .102 in the loss, collecting 40 kills from 166 attacks with 23 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown led DMACC in assists with 13 and Lukkarinen led four players in double figures in digs with 22. Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls had 21 digs and Anderson and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion had 12 apiece.

Liechti, Lyftogt and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo had five block assists apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is idle until Oct. 8 when the Bears will host Hawkeye Community College (HCC). Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. HCC is 10-14 overall and 3-4 in ICCAC play. The Redtails will play in the Rock Valley Invitational on Oct. 4 before meeting DMACC.
