- Sophomore Danica Wrage leads DMACC with seven kills
- Sophomore Riley Starkey contributes nine assists
- Sophomore Lauren Sandvold has four ace serves and 18 digs
Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo had seven kills and hit .357 in leading the DMACC volleyball team to a three-set win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) Oct. 8 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Wrage got her kills from 14 attacks with two hitting errors as the Bears won by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.
Sophomore Reagen Wheeler of Cedar Falls and freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter contributed five kills apiece as DMACC, ranked 17th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 14-10 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
HCC fell to 10-15 overall and 3-5 in the ICCAC.
Sophomore Riley Starker of Rockford, Ill., topped the Bears in assists with nine and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown added seven.
Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls led DMACC in ace serves with four and in digs with 18. Sandvold earned the 1,000th dig of her career and moved into sixth place on the Bears' all-time list of career digs.
Starkey and freshman Kyleigh Turks of Franklin, Tenn., came away with 10 digs apiece.
Wrage and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny led DMACC in blocks with three block assists apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Heartland Tournament today and Oct. 11 at Normal, Ill. The Bears will face Illinois Central College (ICC) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) today and will play McHenry County Community College (MCCC) and Lewis & Clark Community College (LCCC) on Oct. 11.
