DMACC's Lauren Sandvold named NJCAA and ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Aassociation (NJCAA) and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Lauren Sandvold the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball for the Week of October 6 to 12.

Sandvold, a sophomore from Cedar Falls, is being honored by the conference for the third time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the week of Sept. 22 to 28 and Sept. 15 to 21.

Ramsey Johnston, a freshman from Chaska, Minn., was honored the week of Sept. 8 to 13 and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo was honored the week of Sept. 1 to 7 and the week of Aug. 25 to 31.

Sandvold had 107 digs and 11 ace serves as the Bears won all five of their matches during the week. She. Had 18 digs and four ace serves in a 3-0 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) Oct. 8 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

Sandvold came away with 89 digs and seven ace serves in the Bears 4-0 performance in the Heartland Invitational Oct. 10 and 11 at Normal, Ill. She had 22 digs and two ace serves in a 3-0 upset of No. 13 Illinois Central College (ICC) on Oct. 10 and came away with 30 digs and two ace serves in a 3-2 win over Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) also on Oct. 10. Sandvold finished with 15 digs and two ace serves in a 3-0 win over McHenry County Community College (MCCC) on Oct. 11 and added 22 digs and an ace serve in a 3-1 win over Lewis & Clark Community College (LCCC) also on Oct. 11.

Sandvold, who surpassed 1,000 career digs in DMACC's win over HCC, has 547 digs this season and is averaging 5.47 digs per set. She leads the ICCAC in digs and digs per set and is ranked seventh in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in total digs.

Sandvold's season also includes one kill, 108 assists and 41 ace serves.

The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 15th in NJCAA Division II, is 18-10 overall and 5-3 in the ICCAC. The Bears face Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) tonight at Sioux City. WITCC is 20-12 overall and 3-5 in the ICCAC
