The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emma Liechti the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the Week of October 13 to 19.
Liechti, a sophomore middle blocker from Ankeny, is being honored by the conference for the first time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., was honored the week of Sept. 8 to 14 and sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls was honored the weeks of Oct. 6 to 12,Sept. 22 to 28, and Sept. 15 to 21. Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo was honored the weeks of Sept. 1 to 7 and Aug. 25 to 31.
Liechti had 25 blocks and averaged 1.31 blocks per set as DMACC, ranked 18th in this week's Division II poll from the National junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), went 2-3 during the week. She got 10 blocks, including eight block assists in a 3-2 win over Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) Oct. 15 at Sioux City and recorded 15 blocks as the Bears went 1-3 in the Iowa Central Tournament Oct. 17 and 18 at Fort Dodge.
Liechti began the tournament with two block assists in a 3-0 loss to No. 20 Northeast Oklahoma A&M (NEOAM) on Oct. 18 and got three block assists in a 3-0 win over Metropolitan Community College (MCC) also on Oct. 17. The Bears dropped 3-1 and 3-0 decisions respectively to third-ranked Cowley County Community College (CCCC) and No. 5 Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) on Oct. 18. Liechti had four blocks, including three block assists, against CC and came away with six block assists against KCKCC.
Liechti has 120 blocks this season and is averaging 0.92 blocks per set. Her season also includes 146 kills, 10 assists and 47 digs.
The DMACC volleyball team, 21-13 overall and 7-3 in the ICCAC, faces Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Oct. 23 inside the DMACC gymnasium. SWCC is 3-32 overall and 0-10 in the ICCAC.
