The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emma Liechti the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the Week of Oct. 27 to November 2.
Liechti, a sophomore from Ankeny, is being honored by the conference for the second time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored this season. She was also honored the week of Oct. 13 to 19.
DMACC freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., has been honored for her offense the weeks of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 and Sept. 8 to 14. Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls has been honored for her defense the weeks of Oct. 6 to 12, Sept. 22 to 28 and Sept. 15 to 21 and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo has been honored for her defense the weeks of Sept. 1 to 7 and Aug. 25 to 31.
Liechti came away with 16 block assists as DMACC won three matches during the week. She had nine block assists in a 3-1 win over Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) on Oct. 27 and recorded five block assists in a 3-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Oct. 29. Liechti came away with two block assists as the Bears, ranked 17th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the Region 11-B semifinals on Nov. 1.
IHCC is an NJCAA Division I program and is ranked 17th.
Liechti's week also included four kills, two assists and two digs in the win over IHCC, 11 kills and four digs in the win over NIACC and 2 kills in the win over ECC.
Liechti has 138 blocks, including 116 block assists, this season and is averaging 0.95 block per set, fourth best the ICCAC. Her season also includes 170 kills, 12 assists and 54 digs.
