Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter had 11 kills and hit .407 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the Region 11-B semifinals November 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, ranked 18th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated the Panthers for the second time this season by set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-15.
Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls added 10 kills and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo and freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., had six and five kills respectively as DMACC improved to 25-13 for the season.
Lyftogt hit .407 with her 11 kills coming from 27 attacks with no hitting errors. As a team, DMACC hit .226 with 36 kills from 106 attacks with 12 hitting errors.
Johnston led the Bears in assists with 16 and sophomores Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls and Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown had nine and seven assists respectively. Sandvold topped DMACC in digs with 14 and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion and Johnston had 10 and 11 respectively.
Wrage led the Bears in blocks with six, including four block assists.
DMACC, seeded third, will face second seeded Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the Region 11-B championship match Nov. 5 at Cedar Rapids. KCC, ranked second in NJCAA Division II, is 31-2 including a 3-0 win over DMACC during the regular season. The Eagles advanced to the championship match behind a 3-0 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC), also on Nov. 1.
Top seeded Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and fifth-seeded Southeastern Community College (SECC) will play for the Region 11-A championship Nov. 5 at Fort Dodge after both won semifinals matches on Nov. 1.
The highest seeded tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Nov. 19 to 22 at Cedar Rapids. The lower seeded tournament champion will advance to the North Central District Championship against the Region 13 champion.
