DMACC volleyball team drops matches against Johnson County and Northeast Oklahoma

The DMACC volleyball team fell to 5-3 for the season after dropping matches to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and Northeast Oklahoma College (NOC) August 29 at Overland Park, Kan.

 

The Bears, ranked 15th in the Division II preseason poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) lost a 3-0 decision to second-ranked JCCC and also fell to NEO by a 3-0 score.

 

Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., and sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls had seven kills apiece as DMACC lost to JCCC by set scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-16. Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo and Emma Liechti of Ankeny added six kills apiece for the Bears, who hit just .139 in the loss. They had 32 kills from 115 attacks with 16 hitting errors.

 

Johnston also topped the Bears in assists with 15 and added nine digs. Sophomore Lauren Sundvold of Cedar Falls led DMACC in digs with 24 and freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., finished with 19.

Freshman Alli Sheldahl of Hubbard led the Bears in blocks with six block assists and Johnston and Wrage had five apiece.

 

DMACC got six kills from Johnston, Liechti and Lukkarinen in a 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 loss to NEO. The Bears hit .167 with 27 kills from 90 attacks with 12 hitting errors.

 

Johnston and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown led DMACC in assists with 13 and 11 respectively and Johnston also topped the Bears in digs with 13. Sandvold added 12 digs and Lukkarinen came away with 10.

 

Wrage led DMACC in blocks with eight block assists.

 

The scheduled doesn't get any easier for the DMACC volleyball team. The Bears face seventh-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup Sept. 3 at Cedar Rapids. KCC is 5-0 for the season.
